Millennials block family members on Facebook for politics, study shows

More than three in 4 millennials have blocked family members on Facebook because of disagreement over political content, in keeping with a study.

Nearly half of these surveyed from all age teams — 46.4% — mentioned they blocked a family member who “posted hateful, toxic, or problematic things.”

Slightly much less — 43.5% — from all age teams mentioned they blocked a family member for sharing “fake news” whereas 41.4% of everybody surveyed mentioned their kin have been blocked as a result of “they post too much political content.”

Nearly two in 5 folks from all age teams — 37.6% — mentioned they blocked family members who have been estranged whereas 28.6% mentioned that they blocked family members due to “annoying comments on my posts.”

The survey was carried out of two,040 US residents who use each Facebook and its sister social media community, Instagram — each of that are owned by Meta Platforms Inc.

The study discovered that simply 25.8% of Instagram customers from all age teams admitted to blocking a family member.

Most who did block a cherished one on Instagram mentioned the rationale for doing so was to cover their very own content material somewhat than keep away from seeing what the opposite family member was posting.
